Thanksgiving is going to be a little different this year for everyone.

We put together 5 interesting ways to make Thanksgiving a little more joyful and fun, despite COVID and despite being away from our loved ones.

1. Consider putting together a really pretty tablescape this year.

Maybe in the past you haven’t had time or you were more focused on your travel plans or cooking an elaborate meal. Slowing down and having a smaller meal with your immediate family might allow you to go a little fancier on the table decor. Check out this pretty setup from The Spruce. This is a simple and elegant setup that anyone could do.

Or check out this coastal setup from Sand And Sisal. This one has us feeling cheery and beachy!

2. Go with smaller portions of food by cooking a turkey breast instead of a full turkey!

This recipe from Ina Garten looks delicious and is highly rated. We’ve cooked many turkey breasts in our past and they are always a great dinner!

3. Try the Houseparty App for connecting with family!

Houseparty is a social networking app that allows up to eight people to video chat at once in a “room.” Users can have infinite rooms and easily float between rooms. Users receive a notification when friends open the app and can join chats with friends (and friends of friends). You can even play games together!

4. Try a new holiday cocktail.

Since you likely won’t be driving or traveling this Thanksgiving, why not try a new holiday cocktail. This one comes from Morton’s the Steakhouse. We’ll just list the recipe right here:

.5 oz Aperol
.75 oz simple syrup
.5 oz fresh lemon juice

Instructions

5. If you’re able, consider volunteering or giving your time.

There are many organizations out there that need help right now despite the pandemic. A few resources to consider might be the following:

Hands On Suburban Chicago

Designs 4 Dignity

Youth Services of Glenview

We wish all of you a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
